In our ‘Never Underestimate the Value of Search’ blog earlier this year we mentioned that one of the key SEO trends predicted for 2017 was Mobile Experience.

A few weeks ago, the following statistic from thinkwithgoogle.com caught my eye:

Quite scary when you realise that the average time it takes to fully load a mobile landing page is 22 seconds! source: Google Research*

As time moves on, it’s no longer going to be enough to just have a responsive/mobile version of your website, the next step is to make sure your site is fully optimised for mobile.

So, it will come as no surprise to learn that Google has launched Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) – an open source initiative, which aims to dramatically improve the performance of the mobile web by using a stripped-down form of HTML to create super-lightweight, fast-loading webpages, which can be hosted on the Google AMP Cache for even faster loading!

When it comes to mobile site optimisation, as with all things to do with Google, there are lots of factors that come into play like: number of page elements; the number and size of images; bounce rates etc. If you want to see how your website scores in terms of mobile friendliness and mobile page speed visit https://testmysite.thinkwithgoogle.com
